ProvenanceA note on f. 6 r, upper margin states that this book belonged to Cathail I Eachaidhean: 'Leabor Cathail I Eachaidhean', unfortunately no date is given but it is probable that Cathail I Eachaidhean was a Franciscan Friar. The initial intention of the Irish Franciscans at Louvain, Belgium in the early seventeenth century to collect the lives of the saints developped into a major historical and genealogical project which involved locating, collecting, and transcribing materials on the secular and ecclesiastical history of Ireland. Dispersal of the original and much larger collection of Irish and Latin manuscripts from Louvain began in the late eighteenth century with the French revolution. The collection was moved for safekeeping to St Isidore's College, Rome in 1792 where it remained until 1872 when it was moved to the Franciscan Friary at Merchants' Quay Dublin, again for safe-keeping, then to Section A (hence the name) of the newly established Franciscan Library at Dún Mhuire, Killiney in 1946, and, finally to University College Dublin in November 2000.

Robinson, ZCP 4 (1903) 381-93). Fifty lines to the page, double columns in ff. 1, 2 and 3 v. Some capitals on f. 3 v dabbed with green; colouring on recto faded. Upper outer corner of f. 3 v and both upper corners of f. 6 v rubbed, with some loss of text. Marginalia, etc.: (a) f. 3 r, upper margin. 'inomine patr(is) [. . .]so mo pend'. (b) 3 r, 5 r. DescriptionUCD MS A 10 is a grammatical manuscript, possibly from the 15th century. Written in Gaelic on vellum it contains fragments of Auraicept na n-Éces,The Scholars Primer and other grammatical tracts together with fragments of two Irish versions of the romance tale of The Holy Grail. The scribe and the place of writing is not known but a note in the upper margin on ff. 6 r refers to one owner: "Leabor Cathail I Eachaidhean" [Book of Charles Mc Caughey/McGahey?] Part of the Franciscan Collection previously kept at the Franciscan College, Louvain; St. Isidore's College, Rome, 1792; Franciscan Friary, Merchant's Quay, Dublin, 1872; Franciscan Library, Dún Mhuire, Killiney, Co. Dublin, 1946 and, from November 2000 University College Dublin.

15th cent. (?). Vellum. 28 × 19 cms approx. 6 stray folios, now numbered in pencil 1-6. Blank leaves numbered 1-99 have been interleaved between folios, except 5-6. Bound in dark green cloth and half-leather. Front cover bears title 'Grammatical Treatise' in gilt lettering. 'MSS., A. 10, OS[F]' on spine.
