[As helps towards dating it may be noted that the scribe confuses dh and gh (e.g., 7 r., b, 11. 24, 34) ; that he writes do for ro in at least one instance (7v., a, 1. 21); that he almost always writes ea for e followed by a broad consonant; that he almost always marks the aspiration of d and g, but not of b and m.] Unimportant extraneous scribblings, not by the scribe, occur on the lower margins of 4v. (English) and 5v. (archaized Irish). The first and last pages are illegible owing to staining and rubbing. Portions of all leaves have recently been strengthened with gauze netting. Capital letters at the beginning of paragraphs are ornamented, but not coloured. Bd. In leather, tooled and lettered in gold on the outside of the front cover “Irish MS. No. V. Fragment: Din=seanchus. Saec. XIV.” Recently rebacked, and lettered in gold on the back “B 11 2. R.I.A.” Many blank paper leaves have been inserted in binding before and after the vellum, apparently to give body to the volume. (Stowe Ir. MSS. 5. Stowe and Ashburnham collections.)
