Ó Shiell" ). It was with Brian Mac Canna in 1708 (cf. 56 left-hand margin), and after that possibly with “Semus Dubh Mac Bheathadh.” It was connected with south-east Ulster ["Inniskeen", Co. Monaghan: cf. 115] and north Leinster ["County of Loyt": Co. Louth: cf. 180], possibly in the 18th century. The year 1811 is scribbled on p.113.There is no definitive name, place nor date in any part of the manuscript, but according to the penmanship etc., it appears that it belongs to the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. The old cover of the manuscript is still with it at the back between it and the books. There are pages (and fragments) bound before the books and they are noted as coming after p. 170 (i.e. 171-180). Pages have been lost here and there (cf. the Catalogue). It is possible that there were three scribes: A: p. 1-2m.; B: p. 2m--143m; (113-114 is blank); C: 143m-169i. The Latin text of the tracts are given together with translations, paragraph by paragraph, TRÁCHTAIREACHT AR SHEANRÁITE HIPPOCRATES included. Inside at the front as a support to the binding there are four leaves and roots of other leaves. The leaves are decayed. According to the penmanship, it is Semus Dub Mac Bheathadh that wrote most of what is on these leaves except for the English and the Latin on 177m. There are two incomplete printed texts attached: "A VIGO OF ANATOMIE", 19 leaves 7¹/₂" x 5" ; title leaf, first leaf and from f. 20 onwards lost (from the end of the 16th century); "CERTAINE WORKES O CHIRURGERIE [Surgery] “ "newlie compiled and published by Thomas Gale maister in Chirurgerie [Surgery]. London. Printed by Thomas East, dwelling betweene Paules Wharfe and Bainards Castle. 1586.” 12 pp. (letters etc. dates 1563) + 31 leaves 7¹/₂ x 5¹/₂.
