Summary particulars

17th cent. Paper. Ff. 288. Present continuous foliation is modern, replacing that of scribe which began at f. 6 (formerly ‘1’). 25 gatherings (nos. 3, 5-19, 21-23 senions). Dimensions: height (variable) 190-200 mm × width (variable) 150-155 mm. The manuscript was written for the most part at the convent of the Donegal Franciscans at Drobhaois in January-March 1629 (colophons ff. 33v, 94v, 116r, 128r, 142r, 153v, 170v, 193v, 223r, 263v, 278 v), there also in 1627 (ff. 270 r, 271v), 1628 (f. 46r; also f. 38v location unspecified), and perhaps there also in 1635 (f. 279 v, location unspecified). Ff. 48r-58v were written at Ath Cliath in1628 (colophon f. 58v). It is almost entirely in the hand of Míchél Ó Cléirigh with scribal signatures occurring at ff. 31v, 87v, 94v, 128r, 142r, 193r, 201v, 263v, 279v. Occasional entries occur in hands I identify by reference to other sources, viz.: (1) Fr Antonius O’Doherty, d. 1680, ff. 2r, 91v (top margin); (2) Fr John Colgan, d. 1658, ff. 1v, 92v (left margin), 155r (lower margin, 5 lines), 287r, 288r; (3) Fr Hugh Ward, d. 1635, ff. 94v, 265r (Latin index); (4) Fr Thomas O’Sheeran, d. 1683, ff. 281rv, 287v. The hand of ff. 59r-68r is unidentified.
