Medical Treatises

15th cent.? Vellum. 13½ × 9. 92 pp. Name of scribe unknown. On p. 47 is written the name "P. Lee." Old Acad. no. 212. Known as the "Book of the O'Lees" or "of Hy Brasil." Contains translation of some Latin text on medicine, with curious tables of details of disease treated, each divided into 99 compartments, across, aslant, and vertical, coloured red and black, facing description of different diseases, showing name, stage, cures, etc., of disease in question. The first division on p. 1, which contains the words Na leighesa marbtacha, refers to p. 34 (?). Few pages lost judging by context. Strange, badly-done initial letters, ugly faces, etc. The history of this book is given in full in O'Curry's cat.; see also O'Flaherty's West Connaught, p. 70. According to O'Curry, it was bought for the Academy from Thomas Keady of Galway, to whom it had come from the O'Lee family, one of whom professed to have found it in the Island of Hy Brasil. On p. 76, left marg., occur the figures 1434, which may perhaps be the date of writing.

The headings of the various diseases are :—
