16th cent. Vellum. 6 ff. Folio, 30 × 23 cms. A detached layer of Adv.MS.72.1.12, as is made clear by the binding-holes; text-hand, page-size and condition also correspond, as do some marks at Adv.MS.72.1.12, f. 18v, and Adv.MS.72.1.20, f. 5v. Part of the stout thong which formerly bound Adv.MS.72.1.12 remains here, and its position suggests that this was the uppermost of the extant layers. Text written in two columns, probably in Leinster, 1549 (Cf. f. 6v.b9). Hands:

3. f. 6v. Rev. John Beaton, 1690. He here writes in a pale yellow ink almost invisible to the naked eye.
The vellum is rubbed, stained and crumpled. Gashes were stitched prior to writing; the thread is red. Text and colophon at f. 6v are damaged by glue. The leaves are now held together only by a single thong. The conjunct of f. 1, which followed it, has been crudely excised, leaving a lacuna; ff. 2–6 are the remains of a gathering from which the final leaf has been similarly removed. Kilbride no.9 by Major MacLachlan’s enumeration (“9th Medical”, ff. 1r, 6v); no.16 by Hugh Kerr’s. The latter’s name or initials are on every leaf. Foliation modern. Described by Wulff, Rosa Anglica (ITS 25), p.xxxii. The texts from f. 4v begin with citations from the Lilium Medicinae, and may belong like the rest to a version of John of Gaddesden’s Rosa Anglica.

At f. 6r, lower margin, hand 2 writes “this wass writin by me Luke Tully the first of November 1679. And if this book were lo(st o)r I pray that I should have it back again. Luicas O Mwlltuil ( ) gan breig gienine tietin”.
